Buying Domain Names

When buying your domain name(s), here’s a few tips to help you navigate all those options.

  1. Buy two years or more for your primary domain. Search engines might regard one-year registrations as “fly-by-night” sites.
  2. Consider buying a few similar domains, but don’t overdo it. (See related post for which domains to get.)
  3. Select “private registration” to spare yourself a ton of spam.
  4. Don’t buy any extras (e.g., hosting, website builder) unless you have discussed it with your web designer.

I’ll be happy to help you with any aspect of domain registration or any website-related  needs. Contact me.

I have 4 domain names bought in my name, all for one year. I bought them two months ago. Will you suggest me to buy it for another year now only? I will always need them. Thanks.

    Hi Vikas,
Yes I recommend always having at least 2 years paid up on a domain name that you are actively using. Good luck.

Thanks Val; I will soon buy two of my domains for a year more and it will be two years then though I have a personal blog only [but I will put up ads on it soon and self-host it]! Strange ways of these search engines!
